The company’s first highly recyclable nasal spray pump, APF Futurity, is made using polyolefin materials, eliminating metal parts or other components that disrupt recycling and supporting high-quality recyclates
Aptar Pharma, part of AptarGroup, has rolled out its first metal-free, multidose nasal spray pump, dubbed APF Futurity, to deliver multidose nasal saline and similar over-the-counter OTC formulations.
The company said that the new nasal spray pump has been specifically designed with a recyclability feature.
APF Futurity is made using polyolefin materials, eliminating metal parts or other components that disrupt recycling and supporting high-quality recyclates.
It is its first highly recyclable nasal spray pump, which has received Class AA certification from cyclos-HTP for recycling streams in Europe, said Aptar Pharma.
Aptar Pharma president Gael Touya said: “As a leading provider of nasal spray pumps globally, the launch of APF Futurity is a significant step forward in our sustainability journey, underlining Aptar’s overall commitment to a more circular economy and meeting the global need for sustainable packaging solutions that are easy to recycle.”
APF Futurity is part of Aptar Pharma’s Futurity sustainable solutions and addresses a growing consumer need for increased access to recyclable products.
It was created based on the company’s Advanced Preservative Free (APF) technology and delivers precise and consistent dosing with soft actuation.
APF Futurity can be easily recycled together with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP) container, without needing to separate any parts, said the company.
Furthermore, Aptar Pharma has filed for patent protection for its advanced metal-free pump.
Aptar Pharma consumer health care global market development president Stefan Ritsche said: “APF Futurity is a game-changing innovation for the nasal spray pump industry and I am proud of our design and engineering team for meeting the challenge of designing this metal-free nasal pump.
“This is an important step in the transformation of our nasal spray portfolio to more sustainable solutions, and we look forward to bringing additional innovations of this kind to meet the need in the pharmaceutical industry.”
