Wright Medical Group, an orthopaedic medical device company and a provider of surgical solutions for the foot and ankle market, has acquired certain assets of EZ Concept surgical device, the patented EZ Frame external fixator for the foot.

The EZ Frame external fixator is a device that combines elements of a circular fixator for the foot with a full contact brace for the calf.

Wright External Fixation Marketing director Jim Orsak said that in the field of Diabetic Charcot Reconstruction, there is an increasing trend to use external fixation because it stabilises soft tissues which assists the treatment of foot ulcers.

The EZ Frame external fixator adds to Wright’s expansive line of solutions for foot and ankle procedures.

Wright said that the device will be available through its US distribution network beginning in 2011 and the acquisition is expected to be approximately one cent dilutive to Wright’s adjusted earnings during the fourth quarter of 2010 and slightly accretive to Wright’s earnings thereafter.
