US-based medical technology firm Stryker has unveiled its new Citrefix suture anchor system for foot and ankle surgical procedures.

Designed to support bone regeneration and the natural healing process, the new suture anchor system is based on award-winning bioresorbable material, Citregen, to mimic the chemistry and structure of native bone.

Citrefix is said to be a disposable suture anchor system with a resorbable biomimetic anchor body. It is made using Citregen, an elastomeric substance formed from a citrate polymer and specifically created to mimic bone chemistry for regulated resorption without chronic inflammation.

When used in orthopaedic surgical procedures, the special chemical and mechanical qualities are intended to promote healthy bone growth and the healing of transplanted tissue, the medical technology firm said.

According to Stryker, the sterile-packed set of Citrefix comes with a pre-assembled inserter, a drill bit, a drill guide, and a cartridge with an implant and eyelet preloaded on it.

Stryker Foot & Ankle business marketing and medical education vice president Michael Rankin said: “Our customers will now benefit from the expanded use of one of the most innovative bioresorbable materials available for use in foot and ankle procedures.

“Citrefix’s unique suture anchor system is the next step in our expanding Citregen portfolio.”

Last year, the US-based medical technology firm launched Citrelock, followed by Citrefix as the second product in Stryker’s expanding portfolio using the material. The company has plans to launch additional products in 2023.

Stryker offers products and services in medical and surgical, neurotechnology, orthopaedics and spine sectors to help improve patient and healthcare outcomes.

In October this year, the firm rolled out Monterey AL, a stand-alone interbody system designed for anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF).

The interbody system is made from both solid and porous structures within a single implant, using the company’s Tritanium In-Growth Technology.
