Imprivata, a manufacturer of healthcare IT medical devices, has reported that St Croix Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) is leveraging its OneSign to provide convenient and secure access to patient data as part of the organization's move to electronic medical records (EMR).

SCRMC said that, with Imprivata OneSign, it has eliminated the password management challenges faced when transitioning from paper-based records to NextGen EHR, improving physician and clinician workflow, while strengthening the security around accessing patient information.

Imprivata OneSign include key features like OneSign FastPass, OneSign ProveID, Citrix/XenApp and terminal services support, shared workstations and fast user switching, built-in support for a broad range of authentication and multiple card types, self-service password reset and seamless integration with context management solutions.

Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata, said: “St Croix Regional Medical Center understood that providing fast and secure access to patient information is a critical first step in an EMR roll-out. As a result, they were ahead of industry norms and addressed these complex password and security issues before compliance regulations such as HITECH were introduced and mandated these steps.

“The success and foresight of St Croix is a clear demonstration of the critical role that SSO and strong authentication plays in moving to electronic medical records.”

Brent McCurdy, network manager of St Croix Regional Medical Center, said: “Moving to an electronic format results in doctors and clinicians having to remember even more passwords to access the data and applications needed to provide superior patient care.

“This can significantly disrupt workflow and reduce the amount of time spent on patient care. As part of our overall EMR strategy, we implemented OneSign and fingerprint biometrics to protect patient confidentiality and provide clinicians with easy and secure access to patient health information and other data.”
