PacBio has launched the new high-throughput (HT) Nanobind Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extraction kits to enable large amounts of workflows with the company’s Revio and Sequel sequencing systems.

The HT Nanobind DNA Extraction kits are said to offer a simple and rapid protocol for DNA extraction from a range of samples in a high-throughput setting. They are also compatible with platforms from major automation providers, said the US-based life science technology company.

According to PacBio, the new kits are the result of its acquisition of Circulomics in August 2021.

Based in Maryland, Circulomics is engaged in the production of products that can extract high molecular weight (HMW) DNA from almost any types of samples.

The HT Nanobind kits in addition to PacBio’s long-read sequencing technology and scripts from the firm’s compatible partners will help researchers to complete genome assemblies, detect structural variants, and study biological systems in detail in labs.

The technology company said that the new kits will support the needs of high-throughput customers who own the Revio sequencing system, which was launched in October last year.

PacBio chief commercial officer Jeff Eidel said: “The availability of the HT Nanobind DNA Extraction kits represents a major advancement in DNA extraction technology, with significant benefits for researchers in genomics, microbiology, and many other fields.

“By enabling fast, reliable, and scalable DNA extraction, we believe these kits will accelerate research across a wide range of applications. The HT Nanobind DNA Extraction kits offer a solution to the potential bottleneck of sample preparation.

“As we’ve shown with the Sample Preparation Kit 3.0 that was launched in July 2022, we will continue to focus on scaling and automating every step of the long-read sequencing workflow.”

The Nanobind discs used in the HT Nanobind DNA Extraction kits are made of a porous silica-based substance that binds effectively and releases high molecular weight DNA, claimed the company.

According to the life science technology firm, the disks can be used to take out DNA from a range of sample types, including blood, tissue, and cell samples.

This approach enables researchers to extract high-quality DNA within two hours, with little sample input, without the use of hazardous chemicals, and without mechanical homogenisation, said PacBio.
