Semiconductor solutions developer OMNIVISION has unveiled the new OVMed OH0131 image signal processor (ISP) for up to 2-megapixel (MP) resolution medical endoscope cameras.

OVMed OH0131 ISP is said to be an easy-to-implement solution. It is intended for reusable and disposable endoscopes connected to camera control units (CCUs) or handheld tablet consoles.

OMNIVISION said that the ISP supports all its medical image sensors including the OCHTA, OVM6946, OCHFA, OCHSA, and OCH2B imagers.

The OH0131 is said to be compatible with mobile industry processor interface (MIPI) interfaces as well as OMNIVISION’s proprietary AntLinx CMOS chip-on-tip endoscopic imaging interface.

It functions as a kernel board that can be integrated with any MIPI-input post-processing board by a System on a Chip (SoC), field-programmable gate array (FPGA), or x86 platform to create custom CCUs or portable tablet consoles.

The OH0131 kernel is said to incorporate the most recent advanced picture pre-processing algorithms that offer enhanced noise reduction.

It also offers brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, hue, white balance, and gamma adjustment, the semiconductor solutions maker said.

Furthermore, third-party partners using SoCs or FPGAs for post processing will focus on things like LED drivers, high dynamic range, patient isolation, image rotation, image masking/onscreen display, H.264 compression, high-definition multimedia interface, and Wi-Fi output.

OMNIVISION senior staff marketing manager Richard Yang said: “Our off-the-shelf OVMed OH0131 streamlines engineering for medical OEMs, enabling customers to get their products to market faster.

“The ability to purchase a medical-grade image sensor with wafer-level optics, cable and ISP from one vendor also simplifies the supply chain.

“The OH0131 ISP is based on an ASIC system-on-chip (SoC) for the highest image quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness, and is compatible with all our medical imagers that are 2MP and lower in resolution.”

OMNIVISION said that the OVMed OH0131, which is available now, will be put through IEC 60601 EMC and EMI pre-scan testing.
