Medical equipment manufacturer Nihon Kohden has acquired Advanced Medical Predictive Devices, Diagnostics and Displays (AMP3D) for an undisclosed sum.
AMP3D offers a wide range of clinical predictive algorithms and a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform.
The company’s CoMET (continuous monitoring of event trajectories) decision support software uses patients’ continuous monitoring data, vital signs, medical records, and laboratory tests to show the real-time and continuous risk trajectories of the patients.
Nihon Kohden US operations general manager Eiichi (Eddie) Tanaka said: “We are in the business of empowering our health care providers. This acquisition will allow us to provide clinicians holistic patient context before making predictions on patient health conditions.”
Nihon Kohden Digital Health Solutions (NKDHS) is planning to incorporate the CoMET software into its healthcare ecosystem.
The integration of the technology is expected to enable clinicians to monitor potentially catastrophic events before they even occur, as well as minimise mortality and lengths-of-stay.
NKDHS also aims to integrate its core human-machine interface (HMI) technology with AMP3D’s algorithms and software technology, thereby helping to expand its digital health offerings.
The acquisition of AMP3D will allow Nihon Kohden to expand its services and offerings to help customers make more informed decisions.
AMP3D CEO Kevin Passarello said: “We founded AMP3D with the vision of changing the paradigm of patient care from reactive to proactive—so that clinicians might anticipate risks to their patients up to 8 hours before subacute events might otherwise be diagnosed.

With subsidiaries in the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, Nihon Kohden develops, manufactures and distributes medical electronic equipment.
The company’s product portfolio consists of pulse oximeters and devices for arrhythmia analysis, low-invasive blood volume monitoring and wireless patient monitoring.
