Venezia is an advanced gynecological applicator, which offers clinicians with better access to stage IIIA, IIIB and IVA tumors in the cervix, parametrium and vaginal extensions.
The gynecological applicator allows clinicians to treat advanced stage cervical tumors that earlier required specialized techniques such as free-hand needle placement.
According to the company, the applicator provides an easy way to reach tumors through a combination of straight and oblique needles with reproducible and consistent needle placement.
Elekta medical affairs vice president Ben Pais said: "Treating advanced stage cervical cancer has historically been challenging because many existing brachytherapy applicators could not always reach the tumor.
"With a patented snap-fit design, Venezia reduces the complexity of treating advanced stage cervical cancer and shortens implantation time in the operating room."
The company is exhibiting the new gynecological applicator at the World Congress of Brachytherapy in San Francisco, US, which is being held from 27 to 29 June.
Elekta is engaged in the development of advanced tools and treatment planning systems for radiation therapy, radiosurgery and brachytherapy.
