The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted 510(k) approval to Devon Medical Products' extriCARE 2400 negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system.

The extriCARE 2400 pump system weighing 8.6 ounces pairs with the company’s anatomically fitted bandages, which create tight seals around wounds on various areas of the body.

Devon said together these technologies promote blood flow and remove exudates into a disposable canister located on the extriCARE 2400 pump.

The US patent pending extriCARE 2400 pump is used for managing diabetic and pressure ulcers, chronic, acute, traumatic, subacute and dehisced wounds, partial-thickness burns, flaps and grafts.

The extriCARE can be used in wound clinics, acute hospital settings, nursing homes and inside the home under supervision of a trained healthcare professional.

Devon Medical said it will display the extriCARE 2400 pump at the Medtrade Spring Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, US from 11-12 April 2012 and at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care and Wound Healing Society meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, US from 19-21 April 2012.
