Corza Medical has acquired Katena Products, a medical device company focused on ophthalmic surgery products, from Audax Private Equity, for an undisclosed amount.

Established in 1975 and based in New Jersey, Katena provides tissue biologics, diagnostic lenses, punctum plugs, and corneal transplant devices across cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

It offers precision surgical instruments, single-use devices, and therapeutics to hospitals, surgical centres, distributors, medical device OEMs, and clinics.

The company’s products have been sold in over 110 countries to more than 5,000 customers, including hospitals, ambulatory surgery centres and distributors.

Katena CEO Steve Blazejewski said: “Audax has been an instrumental partner in helping Katena evolve into a leading ophthalmic products platform.

“With the support of Audax’ deep investment expertise, global resources, and operational experience, we have been able to accelerate our growth plans while enhancing our ability to meet the needs of our global customer base.

“We thank Audax for their partnership and look forward to embarking on our next phase of growth as a part of Corza Medical.”

Corza Medical is a manufacturer of advanced surgical technologies, owned by GTCR, a private equity firm based in Chicago, Illinois, US.

The acquisition will expand Corza’s portfolio of surgical products and add value to its ophthalmic surgery segment. It is the company’s first add-on acquisition, since its inception in January 2021.

Corza was formed through the merger of medical products manufacturer Surgical Specialties and TachoSil, a spin-out from Takeda Pharmaceutical.

The company has a team of more than 1,800 employees, provides a platform of surgical technologies to support clinicians, distributors and medical device companies.

Corza CEO Dan Croteau said: “Corza is committed to providing exceptional service and value to our customers, transforming surgical outcomes and changing the lives of patients around the globe.

“The acquisition of Katena further enables us to execute on our mission with high-quality products that allow our customers to maintain, improve and restore sight for their patients.”
