Israeli medical equipment manufacturer Beyeonics Vision has received the CE mark approval for Beyeonics One, its patented, fully digital 3D surgical visualisation platform.

Beyeonics One is an ophthalmic exoscope that offers enhanced and magnified visualisation of the surgical field, along with on-demand pre- and intra-operative information.

The visualisation platform enables the information accessible and controlled by an immersive augmented reality surgical headset.

Beyeonics Vision said that the Beyeonics One platform technology is inspired by the head-mounted display technologies used by pilots in the aviation industry.

Beyeonics CEO and co-founder Ron Schneider said: “We are very proud of obtaining a CE mark that will allow us to bring our evolving platform technology to Europe.

“The company plans to build on the clinical and operational experience gained from over 2,000 surgeries performed in the US, to commence its market development activities in the European region in the near future.”

The company claimed that its Beyeonics One offers high magnification and a clear, detailed image of the surgical field with zero perceived latency.

In addition to the automated focus, panning, and controlled illumination, the exoscope includes a surgeons’ filter selection feature for enhanced tissue and membrane contrast.

The untethered visualisation delivered through the AR surgical headset allows the surgeon to maintain a continuous view of the surgical field without losing hand-eye coordination.

Retina Clinic in London, UK, vitreoretinal surgeon and director Paulo Eduardo Stanga said: “I was very impressed by the short learning curve and perhaps most importantly by the immersive experience I got as a surgeon: it felt like being inside the eye itself during surgery and I found this especially helpful when treating the vitreoretinal periphery.”

Beyeonics is a group of medical technology companies, operating through business units Beyeonics Vision and Beyeonics Surgical.

Beyeonics Surgical is a medical technology company focused on Orthopaedics surgical platforms, with a focus on VR and AR-based minimally invasive surgery.
