American Shared Hospital Services (AMS) has begun treating patients at the Baskent University, Turkey with its Gamma Knife system, as per the contract entered in March 2011.

Gamma Knife surgery, also referred as stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), is a non-invasive method for the treatment of malignant and benign brain tumors, vascular malformations and trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain).

The Kisla Campus of Baskent University, an oncology center in the Adana region, now includes both Gamma Knife and two linear accelerator devices used for radiation therapy.

AMS chairman and CEO Ernest Bates said together with their partner EMKA, an affiliate of Ankara-based OZYUREK, Elekta’s distributor in Turkey for the past 25 years, they are committed to pursue this opportunity.

The company also offers the IGRT and IMRT systems, operating room and proton beam radiation therapy (PBRT) for radiation oncology.
