Canada-based Adaptiiv Medical Technologies has joined forces with HP and Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company, to improve personalisation in radiation oncology with 3D printed medical devices.

The Multi Jet Fusion platform of HP provides users access to 3D printing technology for high-volume production of high-quality, flexible, patient-specific components.

HP’s 3D printing solution is said to be suitable for use in the healthcare industry as a result of the speed, quality, and economic advantages gained through HP’s manufacturing processes.

HP 3D printing vice president Louis Kim said: “The combined technology scale of HP and Varian, along with the leading-edge personalisation workflow of Adaptiiv, provides the improved solution that clinicians and patients deserve.

“HP is proud to be a part of this collaboration to help advance the treatment of cancers worldwide.”

Varian is engaged in providing access to personalised, patient-specific 3D printed medical devices. It developed, built, and delivered new cancer care technologies and solutions for clinical partners around the world.

Through the agreement, Varian will advance its commitment to meeting changing consumer requirements and enhancing the patient experience.

Varian strategic alliances and synergy investments director Ben Moga said: “We are energised by Adaptiiv’s innovation and this opportunity with HP to further expand our cancer care ecosystem.

“Addressing our customers’ needs is our top priority, and we are confident that this commercial commitment will help us do just that by advancing interoperability with Adaptiiv’s 3D printed medical devices for external beam radiation therapy.”

Adaptiiv secured the US Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the Adaptiiv On Demand service earlier this year to manufacture and deliver 3D printed patient-specific medical devices.

Adaptiiv CEO Alex Dunphy said: “Collaborating with brands like HP and Varian who stand for quality and innovation will ensure our solutions reach patients around the world.

“The last mile of radiation therapy needs to evolve and our solutions provide greater access to personalised care, while improving treatment and creating workflow efficiencies for cancer centres around the world.”
