Medical Manufacturing Technologies (MMT), a provider of medical device manufacturing solutions, has acquired Ireland-based Somex Automation (Somex).

MMT is a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, a US-based private equity firm with $8.9bn in cumulative capital commitments.

Somex is engaged in providing customised automation equipment and processes for the medical device manufacturing industry.

The acquisition includes transfer of 34 employees to MMT, who will continue to operate at Somex’ Cork and Ballyvourney facilities in Ireland.

Somex founder and managing director Michael Wall will be appointed as MMT technical director.

Somex founder and managing director Michael Wall said: “This transaction allows us to grow the bespoke automation and integration solutions offered to medical device manufacturers across the globe.

“We will be able to leverage the strengths of both companies and create an even more powerful offering for our customers.”

MMT offers a portfolio of high-precision solutions to help its customers develop and manufacture complex medical devices used in minimally invasive procedures.

With the acquisition, the company will benefit from the automation and process integration expertise of Somex, along with its highly skilled employees.

The transaction enables MMT to integrate its medical device manufacturing to further increase its production and expand its operation capabilities.

MMT has launched a new brand, MMT Automation, to bring its subsidiaries’ automation offerings into market.

The company will market Somex’ solutions through its MMT Automation brand.

MMT CEO Robbie Atkinson said: “As a global leader of medical device manufacturing equipment and processes, we streamlined shared technologies and processes to ensure our customers have access to the solutions they need when they need them.

“MMT Automation aligns our automation expertise across the portfolio where we can most effectively help our customers create autonomous manufacturing and continuous optimization of production lines.”
