South Korean artificial intelligence (AI) medical software firm VUNO has partnered with medical device manufacturer Samsung Electronics to integrate its AI-assisted solutions into Samsung’s digital radiography system.

The deal allows to incorporate VUNO’s artificial intelligence-driven chest X-ray diagnostic solution VUNO Med-Chest X-ray into Samsung’s GC85A premium ceiling type digital radiography system.

Samsung Electronics’ DR business team head Woo-young Jang said: “This deal will allow Samsung Electronics to provide an advanced system that integrates AI technology into our key premium X-ray devices to markets world-wide.”

In June, both companies signed a deal for the supply of the VUNO Med-Chest X-ray solution to be used with GM85 mobile digital radiography system. It allows to make an AI solution as an adjunct to Samsung’s mobile and ceiling type digital X-ray systems.

The AI integrated system will be supplied to customers in Korea, as well as Europe and other crucial markets across the world.

VUNO Med-Chest X-ray is an AI-empowered medical device, which enables clinicians to detect areas that are suspicious for pulmonary diseases such as tuberculosis and pneumonia by precisely identifying thoracic abnormalities on chest radiographs.

The device’s lightweight feature led by the optimisation of the AI calculation algorithm is said to be a crucial factor that facilitates seamless integration with a wide range of X-ray devices to deliver AI results on the spot upon scanning an image.

VUNO co-founder and CEO Hyun-jun Kim said: “thanks to the solution’s excellent capabilities as well as a proven track record in a wide range of X-ray devices under various clinical settings, we were able to sign another deal to include VUNO Med-Chest X-ray in the two premium digital X-ray systems of Samsung Electronics.

“VUNO will continue to work closely with global medical device manufactures including Samsung Electronics to further expand our presence in the world market.”

In June last year, Samsung launched new RS85 Prestige ultrasound system for advanced diagnostic applications.
