Thermoplastic Compounds

It is with pride that we can boast a broad experience in developing and manufacturing a wide variety of thermoplastic compounds successfully used in different industrial sectors, including the healthcare market.

We handle complex projects and combine our technical expertise to create tailor made formulations, offering a vast number of compounds based on the following resins:

Amongst the most innovative of Lati’s family compounds we can propose:

Antimicrobial materials

New formulations based on different active principles (from natural or chemical sources) with outstanding antimicrobial activity tested according to ISO 22196.

Controlled density materials

Adding heavy fillers such as metals and minerals with high specific gravity, thermoplastics for injection moulding with densities as high as 9.5g/cm3 can be achieved with excellent surface finishing and dimensional stability. In contrast, using special fillers such as hollow spheres, thermoplastics with densities as low as 0.76g/cm3 for the production of colourable floats can be achieved.

Bioplastic based materials

Derived for example from PLA resin; these products can be considered biodegradable and compostable and do not significantly contribute to CO2 emissions since the base polymer is generated from renewable sources.

At present, we can offer commercially available natural and coloured PLA, PLA reinforced with cellulose or glass fibres and halogen-free V0 flame proof PLA.

Electrically conductive and anti-static materials

With resistivity values ranging from 10 Ohm to 10^12 Ohm customers can easily meet the requirements of ATEX Directive (ATmosphères Explosibles) in a variety of colours and base polymers modified with a wide range of additives including carbon nanotubes (CNT).

Thermally conductive materials

Up to 15W/mK and stable at high temperature, can be formulated either electrically conductive or not, upon request.

Laser marking materials

With outstanding contrast when marked with commercial Nd-YAG, UV and green laser sources.

Halogen-Free Flame Retardant materials

To meet even the strictest future regulations in terms of safety and smoke emission.

Radiopaque materials

Thermoplastics with X ray shielding properties that can in most cases effectively subtitute traditional shieldings.

Self-lubricanting materials

With excellent self-lubricating properties, a very low tendency to wear out, reduced attrition coefficient and a high PV limit.

Magnetically detectable materials

These special formulations allow our products to be detected with various metal detectors even in pieces as small as 1mm. Applications for instance include tweezers, cups, conveyor belts and wheels. Food contact formulations are available upon request.

Structural materials

With excellent mechanical properties, creep and fatigue resistance, this family offers an improved finish surface, besides a weight reduction compared to metal.

Food contact

With over 200 formulations already screened and fully compliant with 21 CFR Parts 170-199 (FDA) and/or Directive 2002/72/EC, Reg. (CE) 1935/2004, ten products NSF/ANSI 51 and 61 listed, LATI S.p.A. can cover the full product portfolio.

These preliminary certifications are often a good starting point for non critical healthcare applications. Cytotoxicity can be assessed upon request on selected products.

It is not to be underestimated that plastic, amongst other advantages, can offer precision, repeatability, product safety and sterilisability.
