Zimmer Holdings, Inc. (Zimmer) has reached a settlement agreement with Smith & Nephew Inc. (Smith & Nephew), over a bone screw patent for unspecified terms, the Mass Device reported. The lawsuit was initially brought by Zimmer claiming that Smith & Nephew infringed a patent for a "Bone Screw for Anchoring a Marrow Nail" that Zimmer acquired from Sulzer Orthopedics Ltd. with its Trigen nail system.

According to the original complaint filed by Zimmer in January 2009, Zimmer sought a declaration of infringement, an injunction against Smith & Nephew selling any infringing products, damages and legal costs and expenses.
