The new VRS system will be specifically used to treat patients with a severely deficient rotator cuff and extensive bone loss. It precludes the use of a standard glenoid baseplate.

It uses CT imaging and advanced 3D reconstruction techniques to enable surgeons to personalize each patient's implant.

Zimmer Biomet global extremities business general manager and vice president Orsa Britton said: "The Comprehensive Vault Reconstruction System is another example of our commitment to addressing the clinical and unmet needs of shoulder specialists.

"This innovative, patient-specific implant, coupled with extensive pre-operative planning software, will expand viable treatment options for patients with severe glenoid deformities."

In September, the company also introduced new Vanguard Individualized Design (ID) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) system, which was designed to enable surgeons to personalize implant to individual patient anatomies.

Vanguard ID is claimed to be the only TKA design that will integrate two individual polyethylene bearings with different articulations on the medial and lateral sides.

Zimmer Biomet produces and markets orthopaedic reconstructive products, sports medicine, biologics, extremities and trauma products, as well as office based technologies.

It also produces spine, craniomaxillofacial and thoracic products, dental implants and related surgical products.
