RespondWell offers telerehabilitation technology, which allows patients to carry out physical therapy exercises at home under remote physician supervision.

The company provides telerehabilitation platform for patients, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, hospital systems, and senior care facilities.

In addition, the firm provides prevention modules, rehabilitation modules, clinical content modules, and clinician tools for its customers.

The acquisition will strengthen Zimmer Biomet Signature Solutions, which is a strategically-curated suite of technologies and services designed to help hospitals and providers streamline delivery of care.

Part of Zimmer Biomet Signature Solutions portfolio, the TherapyHome features a video-gaming-style exercise system with on-screen digital instructors to help patients to follow personalized physical therapy regimens developed by their clinical care team.

Zimmer Biomet biologics, extremities, sports medicine, surgical, trauma, foot and ankle and office based technologies group president David Nolan said: "The new value-based reimbursement environment compels hospitals and providers to assume responsibility for patient outcomes well after discharge and through the critical rehabilitation period.”

RespondWell co-founder and CEO Ted Spooner said: "Telerehabilitation represents the future of optimal and efficient post-surgical patient care, and we are excited to integrate our remote rehabilitation platform into the Zimmer Biomet Signature Solutions suite.”

In June, Zimmer Biomet also acquired medical device firm LDR Holding for about $1bn.

Established in 2000, LDR is engaged in the design and commercialization of novel surgical technologies to treat patients with spine disorders.
