Ypsomed is launching its own reusable Ypsopen pen system in Poland for the administration of insulin. Starting in the spring of 2009, the Ypsopen will be distributed in Poland under the name “Ypsopen Polfa Tarchomin” by the pharmaceutical company Polfa Tarchomin S.A. together with the six Polhumin insulins (Polhumin R, Polhumin N, Polhumin Mix-2, Polhumin Mix-3, Polhumin Mix-4 and Polhumin Mix-5). In Poland 2.7 million people live with diabetes thereof around 1 million are insulin dependent. With the introduction of the Ypsopen they are being offered a tried-and-tested, user-friendly pen system for the precise and safe administration of insulin. Richard Fritschi, CEO of Ypsomed, is delighted: “Poland is an important market in Europe with great potential for our own Ypsopen insulin pen. In the medium-term we have plans to launch the Ypsopen, which allows for the application of insulin from standard cartridges, in other countries in addition to Poland, Germany and China. Negotiations are ongoing.” In Germany, the Ypsopen is distributed by Ypsomed through wholesalers and pharmacies and via Ypsomed's diabetes direct subsidiary DiaExpert, for use with Sanofi-Aventis' insulins. In China, Ypsomed cooperates with Dongbao is marketing the Ypsopen for its own insulins under the name “Dongbao Pen.” The Ypsopen a high quality metal insulin pen based on tried and tested platform technology provides diabetics with additional functionality to simplify handling.
