The HoloMedX platform will allow users to simulate an entire spine surgery in holographic space
Medical technology company Xenco Medical has unveiled a glasses-free holographic surgical simulation platform known as HoloMedX.
The advanced platform has been designed to support users simulate an entire spine surgery in holographic space, thereby helping to avoid any headgear or glasses.
Xenco’s simulation platform, which is incorporated with a Looking Glass light field display, immediately converts DICOM data such as CT and MRI scans into a detailed and interactive holographic reconstruction.
The HoloMedX platform is said to instantly accommodate the holographic scene to facilitate glasses-free holographic viewing and interactivity by multiple users simultaneously.
With a library of holographic implants based on Xenco Medical’s actual spinal implants, the platform allows users to manipulate holographic anatomy and the holographic implants with air controllers modelled after the firm’s disposable surgical instruments.
Designed to facilitate a better dialogue between patients and their physicians, the platform features glasses-free nature that helps groups of users to visualise and involve with the holographic anatomy simultaneously.
The holographic platform also allows users to visualise and interact with a patient’s spinal anatomy as a volumetric object instead of a two-dimensional data set.

In May 2019, Xenco Medical introduced interactive vending machines designed for spine surgery instruments and implants.
