Wright Medical has announced the US launch of its Infinity Total Ankle Replacement (TAR) System, which is designed to treat end-stage ankle arthritis patients.

Combining a low-profile implant design and seamless integration with Prophecy Pre-Operative Navigation Alignment Guides, the system features a distinctive talar resurfacing option for preservation of talar bone and a tibia design compatible with the company’s existing Inbone II System.

OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina, foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson said the Infinity total ankle system represents a breakthrough in treating end-stage ankle arthritis patients in that he now has the option of a low profile, bone conserving total ankle system that is fully integrated with the proven accuracy and reproducibility of Prophecy pre-operative navigation.

"Importantly, the talar component of the INFINITY ankle system is interchangeable with the INBONE II system, which allows me to provide a true continuum of care for my total ankle replacement patients," Anderson added.

The compatibility with Inbone II talar components offers flexibility and opportunity to address continuum of care while seamless integration with Prophecy Pre-Operative Navigation Guides enables fewer surgical steps, less fluoroscopic exposure and reduced surgical time, according to the company.

Infinity TAR System, which is now available in the country through Wright Medical’s foot and ankle sales force, will also be available on a limited basis in select countries outside the US through Wright’s direct sales organization.
