AI-based dental solutions provider VideaHealth has received Medical Device Establishment License (MDEL) from Health Canada for Videa Caries Assist, an AI-powered dental caries (cavity) detection algorithm.

The company said that the solution will help the dentists to better evaluate patient X-rays, capture faster reimbursements, and make treatment suggestions with more transparency and accuracy.

The regulatory license was based on the firm’s recent FDA 501(k) certification of Videa Carries Assist and its trial.

The trial revealed how the AI algorithm enhanced dentists’ diagnostic accuracy without introducing new workflow processes and helped the company get MDEL in Canada.

According to the firm, the FDA testing showed that VideaHealth’s AI technology has assisted dentists in identifying more genuine cavity regions while minimising false cavity regions.

The study also demonstrated how the technology benefits dentists of all levels of experience.

Earlier this year, a collaborative research with VideaHealth partner Heartland Dental found similar results, said the company.

VideaHealth founder and CEO Florian Hillen said: “We’re excited to partner with dentists and industry-leading DSOs within Canada’s innovative dental market as we work together to bring the power of AI to all.

“VideaHealth’s core mission is to expand clinical access to our sophisticated AI so we can provide more effective preventative care for millions of people.”

Dentists can use Videa Caries Assist to improve their clinical competence by using VideaHealth’s Videa Factory, which has over 100 million data points.

It can also help to eliminate AI bias in dentistry by providing complete standards for data trends, pathology diagnosis, and treatment suggestions.

Videa Factory is a valuable data set that both novice and experienced dentists can utilise to improve their clinical knowledge and decision-making.
