Medical technology provider Vidacare Corporation is planning to launch its single needle vascular access system called TALON (tactically advanced lifesaving intraosseous needle) for military personnel.

TALON system provides combat life savers and medics with manual IO access to seven FDA cleared IO sites including proximal tibia (below the knee), distal tibia (ankle), proximal humerus (shoulder) and the sternum.

The system, which features lightweight and minimal cube design, also provides better vascular access through the intraosseous (inside the bone) space and helps deliver vital fluids and drugs through this space.

Vidacare president and CEO Mark Mellin said the system is designed specifically to address the needs and concerns of military personnel treating patients under strenuous conditions.

"The TALON system will help achieve vascular access and save lives when seconds count," Mellin added.

The system will be available in the US in the fourth quarter of 2013.
