Varian Medical Systems has entered into $77m agreement to install its ProBeam system at the King Fahd Medical Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Varian will equip a ProBeam system into five treatment rooms as well as two TrueBeam medical linear accelerators.
Varian said the equipment delivery and installation is expected to start in spring 2013 and patient treatments are scheduled to begin in late 2014.
The agreement also includes a multi-year service contract that should begin as the installation is completed.
Proton therapy method can be applied for many cancer types and provides advantages when treating tumors close to radiosensitive tissues.
