FlexFix, a VentureMD portfolio company, has received two new fundamental patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the orthopedic fracture fixation space.

The patents including 8,128,626 and 8,147,492 cover various aspects of a polymer-based intramedullary implant for fracture fixation.

The patents cover rigid-to-flexible-to-rigid fracture fixation, composite structures, deforming instruments used to change the shape of the implant, methods of implantation and guide wire arrangements.

FlexFix CEO Fallin said the proprietary technology protected by the broad claims in these two issued patents has the potential to drive increased adoption by surgeons of percutaneous fracture fixation techniques in the over $5bn orthopedic trauma market.
