The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted a patent number 7,998,188 including eleven permitted claims covering the Kips Bay Medical's eSVS Mesh technology.
The USPTO has also also granted a Notice of Allowance (NOA) approving a second patent application which includes three claims related to the eSVS Mesh design.
eSVS Mesh is a nitinol mesh sleeve when placed over a saphenous vein graft during CABG surgery is designed to improve the structural characteristics and long-term performance of the saphenous vein graft.
Kips Bay Medical chairman and CEO Manny Villafaña said they believe that the issuance of the patent and the approval of the patent application provide the foundation for a strong and broad-based protection for their eSVS Mesh.
"These are important milestones in the development and growth of our intellectual property portfolio and securing our leadership position in cardiovascular bypass surgery," Villafaña said.
