Ophthalmic medical devices provider Topcon Healthcare has acquired the Henson line of perimetry products, including the Henson 9000 and 7000, from Elektron Eye Technology (EET).

The acquisition also includes the transfer of EET employees to Topcon.

These devices will continue to be manufactured in the UK as earlier.

Topcon Healthcare marketing and product design global VP John Trefethen said: “The acquisition of the Henson range of products will provide us with the opportunity to strategically develop this area of the company’s product portfolio.

“With Topcon’s growing emphasis on screening and early disease detection, the Henson product range perfectly complements our global strategy. I welcome the EET team members to the Topcon Healthcare Family.”

Henson 9000 and Henson 7000 help in detection of glaucoma

Elektron Eye Technology is a subsidiary of Elektron Technology, and offers a range of advanced fast-moving engineered product (FMEP) brands, including the Macular Pigment Screener (MPS II) and the Henson Perimeters, which are known for their accuracy, speed and ease of use.

The Henson 9000 is claimed to help in the early detection of glaucoma and monitoring of established loss. Claimed to be cost-effective, Henson 7000 is a lightweight, mobile instrument that helps in suprathreshold glaucoma screening in the central field.

The company’s ophthalmic devices, which are designed in partnership with eye care professionals, help in the screening and monitoring of glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Topcon Healthcare is engaged in developing solutions that address challenges including increasing eye disease, rising medical costs, access to healthcare and physician shortages.

The company offers integrated solutions including advanced multimodal imaging, vendor-neutral data management, safe distancing and ground-breaking remote diagnostic technology.
