US-based Thermo Fisher Scientific has unveiled two new reproductive health tests, Ion ReproSeq PGT-A Kit and the Ion AmpliSeq Polyploidy Kit, to help advance fertility research.

The two new next-generation sequencing-based assays are intended to aid preimplantation genetic testing-aneuploidy (PGT-A). The method is frequently used to inform in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) research.

The Ion ReproSeq PGT-A Kit and the Ion AmpliSeq Polyploidy Kit are said to be the first research use reproductive health test present on the Ion Torrent Genexus Integrated Sequencer.

According to Thermo Fisher Scientific, both assays offer complete workflows from sample to result for aneuploidy analysis in order to integrate the benefits of genomic testing research for reproductive health labs.

More labs will be able to experiment with thorough PGT-A analysis now that the ReproSeq PGT-A Kit is accessible on the Genexus Integrated Sequencer.

Researchers can explore crucial scientific and genetic insights using the ReproSeq PGT-A Kit, which may boost the likelihood of future pregnancies succeeding and enhance the health of future generations.

Thermo Fisher Scientific clinical next-generation sequencing and oncology president Garret Hampton said: “Building on Thermo Fisher’s existing reproductive health offerings, today’s launch brings the benefits of next-generation sequencing to more research labs with the potential of rapid, in-house testing and analysis.

“Considering the far-reaching implications for those struggling with infertility, researchers must have reliable and accurate testing available to advance the fertility field and ultimately improve reproductive health for all.

“We’re committed to delivering comprehensive, complete solutions that can make this type of exploration a reality.”

The Genexus Integrated Sequencer streamlines the reproductive health research process by providing an end-to-end solution and combining templating, sequencing, and analysis on one platform.

When combined with the optional Ion AmpliSeq Polyploidy Panel kit, the researchers working with the ReproSeq PGT-A Kit have access to extra quality control capabilities that detect contamination, prevent sample mix-ups and can detect triploidy in embryos.
