The Tecan Group and Luminex have entered into an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) agreement to develop a new automated newborn screening solution.
The OEM agreement allows the companies to combine Luminex xMAP technology and LX 200 instrument with Tecan’s Freedom EVO liquid handling platform and HydroFlex washer.
The new automated newborn screening solution will help laboratories enhance efficiency, save vital resources and analyse more samples quickly and Luminex expects to launch the automated newborn screening solution in 2011.
Tecan CEO Thomas Bachmann said that this global OEM agreement is building on a long, well established partnership of creating automated solutions in the research market for Luminex xMAP technology.
Luminex CEO Patrick Balthrop said that automation continues to be a top priority for Luminex and their customers and the high testing volumes in the newborn screening market require full sample-to-answer automation for the thousands of specimens processed by each customer per day.
