US-based Sun Nuclear, a part of the Mirion Medical group, has obtained the CE mark per EU Medical Device Regulation for the SunSCAN 3D cylindrical water scanning system.

The SunSCAN 3D system supports annual quality assurance (QA) in radiation therapy, beam scanning, and linear accelerator (linac) commissioning.

Launched in May last year, the water scanning system is being used in countries outside of those needing the CE mark because of its hyper-accuracy and effectiveness.

Currently available in CE mark accepting countries, the SunSCAN 3D system has undergone a thorough regulatory evaluation and approval procedure, the American medical technology firm said.

The SunSCAN 3D system is said to deliver quick, simple processes using Sun Nuclear’s cylindrical water tank, which is designed to remove the need for tank shifts and maintain constant detector orientation.

By simply rolling the tank into position, starting the filling process, and running the quicker, more accurate AutoSetup routine, users can be ready to scan in just 15 minutes.

According to the medical technology company, the SunSCAN 3D system offers improved precision of 0.1mm throughout the 3D volume to meet the rising prevalence and demands of stereotactic therapy delivery.

Its Virtual Reference Detector uses pulse normalisation to allow single-detector scanning for more efficient small-field measurements.

The water scanning system is supported by the user-friendly SunDOSE software, which enhances multi-tasking throughout the software and makes it simple to optimise scanning queues.

Sun Nuclear radiation therapy QA president Luis Rivera said: “As treatment delivery systems and delivery techniques continue to become more sophisticated, dosimetry solutions need to deliver enhanced features while keeping workflows simple.

“Particularly for departments doing stereotactic QA, SunSCAN 3D is a must-have for accurately characterising their accelerators to meet the stringent needs of these deliveries.”

Sun Nuclear is engaged in providing solutions for radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging centres.
