Staar Surgical Company has received the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare approval for its Visian Toric Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) used to correct Astigmatism.

The approval allows the company to include Toric ICL into its product offerings in Japan.

Staar Surgical Asia Pacific Region President Don Todd said the approval is a very important milestone for Staar and they have been working very closely with the Japanese regulators to win approval for Toric ICL.

"With the high rates of myopia and astigmatism in Japan, this approval opens up a significant market opportunity for the company," Todd added.

Astigmatism is blurred vision that is created when the eye is not able to properly focus because of its irregular shape.
