St Jude Medical has received the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) approval for its Penta surgical lead to manage chronic pain.

The Penta surgical lead is used for neurostimulation therapy to address complex pain patterns like low back pain and arm and leg pain.

The Penta lead features a proprietary micro-texturing process that enables greater amounts of current to be delivered via the small electrodes.

The surgical lead is arranged in five columns and is designed to selectively stimulate nerve fibers associated with the patient’s area of pain without affecting other areas.

The surgical lead can be used with the company’s Eon Mini spinal cord stimulator.

The Eon Mini neurostimulator is well suited for those patients whose body type requires a small device.

St Jude concluded that its Penta surgical lead is also available in the US, Europe, Australia and Canada.
