Featuring offices, laboratories and training facilities, the expansion is said to increase the size of the current facility by 25% to around 11,000m².

Sorin Group cardiac surgery business unit Michel Darnaud said the expansion of the Munich manufacturing plant marks another milestone for the company.

"The Munich expansion follows the recent delivery of our 10,000th heart- lung machine to Brigham and Women’s Hospital earlier this year," Darnaud added.

The space extension of manufacturing floor will increase the production capacity of heart-lung machines (HLM) and autotransfusion systems (ATS), said Sorin.

It also allows in-house manufacturing of heater-cooler systems.

The Munich facility manufactures advanced cardiopulmonary systems, including HLMs, ATS machines and blood-gas monitoring devices.

The company also operates facilities in Denver of Colorado, US, and Mirandola of Italy, which produces cardiopulmonary bypass systems.

In 2013, the company commenced a greenfield manufacturing project in China to meet the demands of the medical community in the country.

Sorin develops and markets medical technologies for cardiac surgery and for the treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders.
