Sony has introduced new medical monitors, which can be used in operating room and training applications.

The new LMD-X550MT and LMD-X310MT 3d surgical monitors can be used with 4K or 3D endoscopes and surgical microscopes in operating rooms, as well as medical facilities for training and education.

With a slender chassis and narrow bezel, the new monitors show 2D and 3D content in 4K or HD resolution.

The 4K is said to offer four times the resolution of HD with enhanced clarity, higher contrast and accurate colour reproduction, while 3D visualisation will improve surgical accuracy, reduce procedure times and deliver realistic depth perception.

The monitors also feature firm’s original OptiContrast panel, which is an advanced optical technology that reduces glare and reflection and increases contrast to provide vivid images with deep black reproduction.

The advanced image multiple enhancer (AIME) enables operators to adjust the structure and colours of 4K and 3D images from endoscopes and surgical microscopes in real time.

Sony will showcase the new monitors at the MEDICA event in Düsseldorf, Germany, which will be held from 14 to 17 November.

Sony Professional Solutions Europe product marketing manager John Herman said: “With the introduction of these monitors, Sony has combined the best of both 4K and 3D worlds.

“Namely – improved surgical vision through higher resolution, enhanced identification of tissue surface structure from increased brightness and colour reproduction and improvements in surgical accuracy with increased depth perception from 3D visualisation.”
