Smith & Nephew Plc's (Smith & Nephew) Advanced Wound Management division will lay off 160 jobs at its production plant in Largo, Florida by the year-end 2009, Tampa Bay Business Journal reported. A notice of the layoffs was issued by the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation. Initial layoffs were seen in June 2009 and July 2009. The remaining layoffs will take place in four phases between August 28, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
Smith & Nephew previously announced plans to shut down the manufacturing facility, located at 11775 Starkey Road, and move production operations to China.
