Smith & Nephew, a provider of advanced wound management services, has completed the acquisition of Kalypto Medical.

The acquisition enables Smith & Nephew to add Kalypto Medical’s portable, ambulatory NPWT system, NPD 1000, to its negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) pipeline and intellectual property portfolio.

Smith & Nephew advanced wound management division senior vice president Robin Carlstein said, "The acquisition of Kalypto Medical is in alignment with our strategy to bring ever more innovation to this important market, continuing our drive to reduce the human and economic cost of wounds."

Smith & Nephew products include Renasys which provides clinicians a choice to use, intuitive devices and various foam and gauze dressing kits, while the palm sized PICO system’s one-button pump and dressing technology manages fluids without a bulky canister.
