US-based medical technology company SeaSpine has commercially launched its Meridian Anterior Lumbar Interbody System that comes with a Reef A interbody.

The Meridian Anterior Lumbar Interbody System is a modular instrument and implant system that simplifies the ALIF process and offers a variety of fixation choices for single- to multilayer surgeries in fewer sets.

The system replaces the outdated SeaSpine ALIF system, which had just three stand-alone possibilities and no additional fixation, SeaSpine said.

SeaSpine said that the system is a modular instrument and implant system that will address an approximately $200m market segment in the US.

Meridian makes use of Shoreline ACS, the leading modular anterior cervical system from SeaSpine, to offer a variety of TruProfile plating options.

Reef Topography and NanoMetalene surface technologies are both present in the Reef A interbody.

It also retains the advantages of conventional PEEK, such as biocompatibility, an elastic modulus that is similar to bone, and excellent radiographic imaging.

Reef Topography’s additional macrostructures increase the titanium surface area and boost biomechanical stability.

The Reef A interbody profile consists of independent No-profile and TruProfile configurations that give surgeons the flexibility to address various pathological demands intraoperatively.

Its instrumentation is designed to be compatible with the WaveForm A (ALIF) 3D-Printed Interbody System that the Company expects to release later this year.

SeaSpine spinal systems product development vice president Shaeffer Bannigan said: “This next-gen ALIF system is designed to provide maximum modularity coupled with our proprietary surface technology and Reef Topography, which we believe makes it the most comprehensive ALIF system on the market.

“Our customers expect simplicity, versatility and capability from our systems – Meridian delivers all three.”

In June this year, the company announced the full commercial launch of its WaveForm C Interbody System.
