Sapheon has reported positive one year first in-man safety trial results of its Sapheon Closure System.

The Sapheon Closure System is a medical adhesive and single-use catheter-based delivery system which enables immediate and permanent closure of the saphenous vein without surgery, thermal ablation, or sclerosing chemicals.

The results showed that 100% of the great saphenous vein segments treated with the Sapheon Closure System remained completely closed by ultrasound criteria.

Sapheon co-founder and CMO Rodney Raabe said the data demonstrates that they can safely and effectively eliminate significant pain and symptoms related to superficial venous reflux disease while also eliminating procedural tumescent anesthesia, compression stockings, and extended recovery time.

The Sapheon Closure System has recived CE mark approval and will be introduced in Europe and Asia in early 2012 under the trade name VenaSeal.
