Sanofi-aventis and its partner AgaMatrix have developed blood glucose monitoring (BGM) devices BGStar and iBGStar, which are planned to be launched in early 2011.

The BGStar and iBGStar devices integrate convenient, accurate and easy-to-use blood glucose management providing decision-making support to diabetic patients and their healthcare professionals, to improve patient self-management.

BGStar has various feedback features including alerts, programmable reminder alarms and positive feedback to indicate what the results mean and also include a large, backlit display allows results to be quickly and easily viewed, managed and discussed.

The ultra-compact iBGStar can be plugged into an iPhone or iPod touch and displays results on a full-color, touch screen providing services to diabetic people and its Diabetes Manager Application will allow data to be easily managed and communicated to healthcare professionals.

In addition, the iBGStar product range offers users access to a full service telephone hotline and other scan feel more confident to take charge of their lives.

Along with iBGStar, BGStar is based on the patented Dynamic Electrochemistry technology ensuring accurate and reliable blood glucose readings and without the requirement of coding.

Sanofi-aventis Global Diabetes division senior vice-president Pierre Chancel said that their patient-centric approach means they truly understand the challenges faced by people with diabetes.
