Simulated Surgical Systems (SSS) will announce the official release of its newly redesigned robotic surgery simulator, RoSS II, at the 2015 American Urology Association (AUA) exhibition in New Orleans, from May 16-19.

The portable, stand-alone RoSS II console boasts improved graphics and visualization, enhanced physics, a smaller size and decreased weight.

After the change in management and relocation of their headquarters to San Jose, California, SSS made the RoSS II project their first order of business.

"At IMSH earlier this year, we received a lot of feedback about the RoSS from our customers and other healthcare professionals," said Thomas Sanford, chief financial officer.

"We have used this feedback to target specific improvements and will continue to focus on modifications that enhance user experience and increase affordability."

The RoSS II will be made available to the public immediately after the conclusion of AUA.

Founded in 2009, Simulated Surgical Systems, LLC is a pioneer in the development of simulation for robot-assisted surgery.

The RoSS simulator is based on extensive research conducted with collaboration between the robotic surgery department at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the virtual reality laboratory at the University of Buffalo.
