Rokid, Eyedaptic roll out EYE5 smart glasses for AMD patients

US-based augmented reality glasses manufacturer Rokid, in partnership with Eyedaptic, a developer of wearable devices for enhanced vision, has unveiled the new EYE5 smart glasses.

The new smart glasses cover a wide range of use cases for central vision loss, including Diabetic Retinopathy and Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Eyedaptic EYE5 solution is equipped with simulated natural vision software, which optimises the user’s functional peripheral vision.

It uses a small embedded camera that captures the individual’s environment, manipulates, and enhances the pixels and re-displays the image.

The smart product also includes advanced artificial intelligence and computer vision algorithms, and can easily integrate with Eyedaptic’s custom user interface.

Furthermore, EYE5 offers the EyeSwitch 2-in-1 functionality, which combines a wearable and a hand-held visual aid in a single device, eliminating the need for multiple products.

Eyedaptic chief medical officer Mitul Mehta said: “People value their eyesight over ten times more than any of their other senses. The EYE5 gives my patients with visual impairments access to life-changing technology that enhances their vision.”

The new wearable solution, with software powered by Air Pro, and augmented reality hardware developed by Rokid, will re-display the images from the user’s surroundings.

It re-displays the images after processing them and enhancing the pixels, to help patients visualise their surroundings.

Eyedaptic said that the new EYE5 is easy to use, light in weight, and more comfortable for anyone of any age suffering from central vision loss.

The clinical trials conducted on the utility and efficacy of the new solution showed a two-fold visual acuity and a fivefold improvement in daily activities.

Also, the EYE5 smart glasses help users manage a wide variety of tasks, such as watching a movie, doing grocery shopping, or working on a computer.
