RF Surgical, a provider of detection technologies, has formed a three-year strategic alliance with Premier healthcare alliance.

More than 2,500 US hospitals, and 78,000 additional healthcare sites in the alliance can select RF Surgical’s Assure detection technology, as per the agreement.

The RF Assure detection system uses evidence-based radio-frequency (RF) detection technology to prevent and detect retained surgical items (RSI) from remaining inside a patient post-surgery.

The system can safely read through bone, deep cavity tissue, fluids and detects if radio frequency-tagged surgical sponges, gauze or towels remain in a patient following surgery.

RF Surgical co-founder and chairman Jeffrey Port said they are pleased to partner with Premier to make RF Assure available to a greater number of healthcare providers, continuing to work towards the goal of eliminating the incidence of RSIs in the operating room setting.
