Medical device company ResMed has launched its AirCurve 11 series bilevel devices to treat sleep apnoea and support patients to initiate and stay on the therapy.

The AirCurve 11 series devices are the latest range of bilevel devices that use two levels of support.

The devices are said to combine inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP) and expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP) levels of support with digital technology to help healthcare providers offer treatment.

ResMed has developed the bilevel devices on its AirSense 11 platform to increase the range of offerings for healthcare providers and clinicians.

AirCurve 11 series aims to address the challenges some patients have in adapting to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.

The series includes AirCurve 11 VAuto which is a bilevel PAP device. It is intended to enhance comfort and help compliance by delivering a higher pressure during inhalation and a lower pressure at the time of exhalation.

The medical device company claims that this design allows the device to effectively align with the natural breathing pattern of the patient.

The AirCurve 11 series devices also include the AirCurve 11 ASV which is ResMed’s new adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) device. It is designed to make therapy feel like the patient’s own breath.

The device incorporates the ASVAuto algorithm that tracks 13 points on every breath cycle 50 times per second. The software utilises each patient’s unique minute ventilation target and respiratory rate to deliver therapy for stabilising ventilation.

Other prominent features and settings include integrated cellular and bluetooth communication that facilitate secure and automated transmission of data to the cloud for access in AirView and myAir.

The products also have integrated heated humidifier and over-the-air updates that deliver software and new digital features directly to the device.

Additionally, the AirCurve 11 devices have a myAir patient engagement app, a cloud-based system called AirView, and few other digital features.

ResMed chief medical officer Carlos Nunez said: “Patient care is our top priority, and that includes their comfort and compliance with PAP therapy.

“We’ve seen patient compliance improve from 70% to 87% through the use of coaching features and the ability to track and view their nightly sleep data via MyAir and AirView, so we’ve incorporated these digital health applications into the new AirCurve11 series to enable maximum comfort and support throughout the therapy experience.”
