QImaging has introduced a new scientific camera designed specifically for the imaging challenges related with electrophysiology research.

The Retiga ELECTRO CCD Camera includes a cooled 1.4 Megapixel camera and can help researchers in meeting the challenges of electrophysiology including 50 MHz pixel digitation for fast frame rates for accurate placement of electrodes.

It offers regulated and fanless cooling for zero vibration imaging. The camera is also grounded externally and hence eliminates electrical noise contribution.

The image processing in the camera is based on field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The company claims that this offers higher image clarity.

The camera is also equipped with Ocular image capture software, developed by QImaging.  The company claims that it has been built from ground up and can work reliably in daily research tasks.

The software offers a simple user interface experience with ribbon-based design to navigate between line view, image acquisition, movie capture and image analysis tasks.

QImaging product manager Steven Smith said: "The fanless cooling used in the ELECTRO eliminates vibration and enables the electrophysiologist to accurately place electrodes.

“Integrated grounding is also important to insure the camera doesn't contribute any exogenous noise that could pollute electrical recordings.

"The camera also performs well in low light applications, making it useful for more routine fluorescence imaging which is an added benefit to many of our customers."

QImaging is a Surrey, British Columbia-based, camera designer and manufacturer. The company makes cameras for life sciences, machine vision and original equipment manufacturer applications.
