French computer-assisted surgery tools developer Pixee Medical has launched its Knee+ AR computer-assisted orthopaedic solution in the US.
The patented platform will help orthopaedic surgeons during surgery through the real-time 3D positioning of instruments, right in their field of view.
Knee+ features proprietary software that runs on off-the-shelf smart glasses, eliminating the need for huge capital equipment or disposables.
It was introduced in European and Australian markets in January 2021.
The company claims that the device is suitable for Ambulatory Surgical Centres (ASCs) needs and is also compatible with surgical hoods.
Pixee Medical founder and CEO Sébastien Henry said: “Since our first surgery in the USA in Boston in October 2021, we have organised a successful round of surgeries on multiple clinical sites across the US. We are now ready and confident to launch the product in the leading worldwide market for orthopaedics.
“Our solution is the only imageless & open platform for total knee surgery available in the US. We will be at the AAOS Meeting to meet with surgeons and finalize the organisation of our distribution channel.”
Knee+ will be updated in near future with features like soft tissue balancing, kinematic alignment and data connectivity, said the company.
Pixee Medical is also planning to expand its portfolio with more mixed reality products like total shoulder arthroplasty and with an easy-to-use cup orientation and leg length controlling AR tool for total hip arthroplasty.
The company is planning to launch Knee+ at the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting to be held from 22-26 March in Chicago.
In December last year, MicroPort Orthopedics completed its first surgery in the US leveraging Pixee Medical’s Knee+ augmented-reality platform.
