Pioneer Surgical Technology, a provider of orthopaedics, spine and biologics medical devices, has received the US Patent Trademark Office (USPTO) patent for its nanocrystalline calcium phosphate technology - nanOss.

Pioneer’s first developed biologic product, nanOss Bioactive was launched in the US in 2009 and is a bone void filler/bone graft substitute used in orthopaedics.

Biologics general manager Shane Ray said that this patent issuance is a great achievement with their license with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Pioneer’s biologic research and development team.

“With the advances from Pioneer’s team and through the addition of the first FDA cleared product utilising nanocrystalline materials in orthopaedics, we feel we have created the closest technology to human bone available to patients today,” Ray said.
