Pear Healthcare Solutions has entered into an agreement with VeraLight to distribute Scout DS device in pharmacies across Canada.

The Scout DS is a noninvasive screening device which needs no blood and is done to individuals of 18 years or older who are at risk for prediabetes and/or type 2 diabetes to assess whether diagnostic testing is necessary.

The patient simply places a forearm on the portable table-top unit, and a quantitative result is reported in about three minutes.

Pear Healthcare Solutions Sales and Marketing vice president Mark Doyle said the potential to identify people with undiagnosed diabetes or prediabetes could reduce long-term healthcare costs and improve the quality of lives for Canadians.

"We will introduce the device with screening events in two pharmacies in Ontario in August and expand across the country in the coming months," Doyle said.
