The new service has been designed to minimize communication gaps between assisted living facility residents and their families, friends and care providers.

Panasonic Corporation of North America new business development vice-president Bob Dobbins said: "As the aging population increases, there is growing demand for flexible healthcare solutions capable of addressing a range of needs unique to this group.

"Panasonic has the expertise to integrate its technology solutions to create a comprehensive network of care. On4Today is another step forward in paving the way for cost-effective ‘care in place’ practices."

The lightweight device is portable and provides options to manage daily activities with calendar appointments and reminders, view photos and videos, and participate in video chats and messaging.

The new service will be showcased at the Leading Age Annual Meeting and Expo in Nashville, Tennessee, which will take place between 19-22 October.
