Oridion Systems Ltd. presented new study outcomes at Society for Technology in Anesthesia (STA) San Antonio, Texas demonstrating the clinical benefit of end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2) monitoring using Microstream capnography technology. Research was presented on the new Oridion technology Integrated Pulmonary Index, which uses end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtC02), pulse rate, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation (SpO2) to provide a clear inclusive assessment of a patient’s ventilatory status. A study conducted in Jerusalem by David Gozal, MD from Hadassah University Hospital and Yaacov Gozal, MD from Shaare Zedek Medical Center, on the validity and application of the Integrated Pulmonary Index in the pediatric population, showed that it would be particularly useful for non-expert personnel monitoring patients undergoing procedures requiring sedation or recovering from them. Another study conducted by Dr Yaacov Gozal evaluating the reliability of this new software postoperatively concluded that Integrated Pulmonary Index which is 510K pending may simplify the monitoring of patients in a busy PACU since it is displayed as a single value. Several studies were also presented on the unique Oridion family of CO2 breath sampling lines - FilterLine, and how they bring the Microstream measuring technology to all patients in all settings. A study conducted by Paul F. Nuccio, RRT and Michael R. Jackson, RRT-NPS from The Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston on EtCO2 measurements with non-invasive ventilation (NIV), concluded that the oral or nasal Smart CapnoLine H Plus CO2 sampling line is reliable method in trending EtCO2 with different ventilator settings and leak rates in the normal subject. A study conducted by Peter L. Whitesell MD et al. demonstrating the advantages of Smart CapnoLine H Plus O2 in sleep diagnostics showed that only the Oridion Smart CapnoLine H Plus O2 met the test objective of detecting changes associated with apnea and hypopnea, and that it was superior to other CO2 sampling lines, as it did not miss events. In a study demonstrating the benefits of another Oridion sampling line by comparing CO2 sampling lines concluded that the Oridion Smart CapnoLine Plus O2 proved to be effective for EtCO2 sampling, providing accurate readings compared to other tested CO2 sampling lines with and without oxygen supply, when sampling from nose and mouth breathers.
